5 Essential tools for being a barista in your home

Create your own at home coffee

Are you a coffee lover looking for the perfect cup every time? I have the perfect solution for you - creating your own at-home barista space with the essential tools!

Whether you're a complete beginner or a more experienced coffee-drinker, I’ve compiled a list of the essential tools needed to make your home into a coffee oasis.

With your own equipment, you can have your own private cafe experience while you make a delicious espresso, cappuccino, or latte each morning. To do this at home, here are some essential barista tools that you need to invest in.
First is a quality espresso machine. These machines will range in price depending on the quality and capabilities, so you may have to shop around to find the one that is right for you. A good espresso machine should be able to read the temperature and consistency of the espresso and provide consistent flavor each time you use it.

*I will make a separate post about how to select your espresso machine and what features I personally consider when choosing a new machine or what I would recommend to friends and family.

Second on the list is a grinder. A quality grinder can make all the difference when creating your espresso. If you’re buying whole beans, a burr grinder is best for creating an even, uniform grind each time. If you don’t want to grind the beans yourself, preground espresso is also a good option. Just make sure you buy a quality product.

Third, quality espresso cups and saucers are essential to complete the home barista experience. Let’s face it, one of the biggest incentives to having your own coffee station is the aesthetic of it all… so here is where you get to have fun and build your mug, espresso shot, and saucer collection. Vintage shops and thrift shops will be your best friends when it comes to building your coffee cup

Fourth, you will also need a milk frother to create the creamy texture and flavors that come with espresso drinks. It’s more affordable and practical to buy an espresso machine that comes with one that’s already attached to it, but that can easily bring the price of the machine up. If you want something more economical, a handheld milk frother is perfect for making small batches of milk foam at a time. For larger batches, an electric milk frother or steam wand will create larger amounts of milk foam with easier clean

Fifth is an espresso tamper is great to have in order to compress the coffee grounds evenly and create a consistent flavor. If your espresso machine doesn’t already come with a en espresso tamper, investing in one can make all the difference in creating delicious espresso drinks.

Finally, you can’t make the perfect cup of coffee at home without some good quality espresso beans! There are so many options and coffee brands out there, you will need to spend some time googling some brands to ensure you’re getting high-quality, fresh coffee beans .

For the new at home barista I recommend selecting the espresso option which saves you all the hassle of grinding your own beans, it comes finely ground so you can add to your espresso machine straight out of the bag!
